A curtain wall is a system of self-supporting facadeA curtain wall is a lightweight, glazed structure, independent of the load-bearing structure of the building, which is built continuously in front of it. A curtain wall is designed to resist its own weight as well as the force of the wind, transmitting it to the floor slabs. Generally the curtain walls are built by repeating a prefabricated modular element that includes the necessary protection, opening and accessibility elements as required.
The curtain walls are typically designed with extruded aluminum profiles. The majority of the wall surface is usually enclosed with glass, which provides a pleasing appearance to the building while facilitating natural lighting.
